Alexander Gorshkov, together with his wife Ludmilla Pakhomova in Innsbruck in 1976, the first Olympic champion in ice dancing, died in Moscow on Thursday at the age of 76.
This was confirmed to the TASS news agency by Alexander Kogan, general director of the Russian Federation.
The six-time world and European champion has served as association president since 2010. Pakhomova died of leukemia in 1986 at the age of 39.
The duo lost only one competition, at the 1972 European Championships in Gothenburg the title went to the Ravensburg siblings Angelika and Erich Buck.
