BVB wants to say goodbye to the winter break with a win

Coach Edin Terzic from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund is aiming for success in the duel at Borussia Mönchengladbach. “We will play to win and definitely want to get the three points,” said Terzic before the last competitive game of the year on Friday (8:30 p.m. / DAZN): “We now have to do everything the body has to offer again.”

To be successful in the “difficult” away game in Gladbach, “you have to show a good performance right from the start,” said Terzic. After the bitter 2-0 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday, his team will now “show a different face”.

Terzic still has to do without Marco Reus. The 33-year-old “is not yet free of pain” and will therefore fail like in Wolfsburg. “We hope that we will get him fit again in the next few weeks so that he will be back in the new year,” said Terzic without explaining the pain in more detail. Most recently, Reus had complained of ankle pain.

Terzic was disappointed that Mats Hummels was not nominated for the World Cup, but does not expect this to have an impact on the game. “We are sure that he will make a good game for us,” said Terzic.

Big chunk for BVB II

The second representative of BVB faces a difficult task at SV 07 Elversberg. Most recently, Elversberg drew – 1:1 against FC Erzgebirge Aue. Last week Borussia Dortmund II beat SC Verl 1-0. Dortmund II is now in the middle of the table with 15 points.

In view of the good home statistics (5-0-2), SV 07 Elversberg should start with self-confidence. With 31 points, the host confidently leads the classification of the 3rd division. The guarantee of success for coach Horst Steffen’s team is the well-functioning offensive department, which has the best value in the league with 34 goals. Elversberg’s haul so far: ten wins, one draw and two defeats. The result of the last games is rock solid – SV 07 Elversberg got ten points from the last five games.

BVB II is currently in 13th place and has a lot of room for improvement in the table. Especially at the front line, Christian Preusser’s team did not develop, so that only eleven goals were scored by the guests. Dortmund II’s record after 13 matches consists of four wins, three draws and six bankruptcies. Borussia Dortmund II comes into play with a positive record of eleven points from the last five games.

The BVB II back team in particular should be warned: Elversberg sinks the ball into the opposing net more than twice per game on average. Borussia Dortmund II did not act disembodied this season, as a look at the card statistics shows. Will SV 07 Elversberg be impressed by this?

This game will certainly not be an easy task for BVB II, as Elversberg has collected 16 more points from previous games.

“Extremely poor”: sponsor disappointed by BVB

Borussia Dortmund has been indirectly criticized by one of its shirt sponsors for the poor performance in the cup competitions.

At the digital general meeting of the company Evonik – which has sponsored BVB since 2006 – a shareholder wanted to know whether Borussia’s performances could have an impact on the share price.

CEO Christian Kullmann, who is the chairman of the supervisory board at BVB, denied this: “The minority stake in BVB and the team’s sporting achievements have no effect on the Evonik Industries share price.” It is true, however, that “BVB’s appearance in at the international competitions this year, we also judged it to be extremely poor.”

So there is disappointment at Evonik, whose logo has only been seen in BVB cup games since 2020. In the Bundesliga Dortmund runs with the emblem of internet service provider 1&1.

Evonik expenditures for BVB decrease significantly
Because BVB had withdrawn from the cup competitions very early on, Evonik’s sponsorship expenses fell noticeably. “As a result, the costs were halved to around eight million euros compared to previous years. The exact amounts depend on the successes of the team.”

Despite everything, thanks to the partnership with BVB, “more than 250 million viewers” saw the company logo in the 2021 financial year.
