Doctor Strange 2 arrives to materialize the union of narratives in Disney’s cinema and streaming

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is another one of Marvel’s team-up films. This new phase of the company, post-Avengers: Endgame, apart from character debuts, will always be about the union of well-known heroes and other newcomers. In the case of this film, the protagonist returns with the Scarlet Witch and presents America Chavez, the young woman who has the powers to travel between universes.

In addition to this mix, what will draw the most attention in this sequel is the connection that Disney is making with its streaming products. If before the pandemic the Marvel Shared Universe was about the movies, now it’s almost necessary to understand the Disney Plus series – specifically Loki and Wandavision, the two most important and most successful of the service.

It was in them that the Enchantress was really introduced, where her story evolves from, and also where the concept of the Multiverse was most strongly presented. Can’t get out of the What If game? also, an animation that in a very playful way presented the new possibilities of this narrative of different realities. For those who follow, these specifics are already in place and now it’s time to see an explosion of what has been prepared, and also what will come in the future, since this is one of the last films of Phase 4, which ends with Thor: Amor and Thunder.

On the other hand, is it safe to say that you can watch Doctor Strange 2 and understand everything without seeing any of it? Yes, but the full experience will surely come with just that in mind. And in terms of business, Disney does what seemed difficult a few years ago, which is to unite platforms and narratives around a single goal: to tell stories that are independent and connected at the same time. Now it’s time to wait if the result is positive or not.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” banned in Saudi Arabia. It was about LGBTQ

Disney and Marvel are losing out to the censors once again. The fast approaching “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” with Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role will not see its premiere in Saudi Arabia. As with Eternals, the reason the film is banned is because it includes LGBTQ characters in the film.

Marvel is again a victim of censorship

Rumors that “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” would be banned from showing in Saudi Arabia had been circulating since Friday, but only today “The Hollywood Reporter” confirmed this information. The magazine reports that the ban may also apply to Kuwait, but it is not official yet.

The film is still waiting for its world premiere, and there are no reviews yet. It is known, however, that the censors’ decision is related to the fact that America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, appears in the film. In the Marvel comics, the heroine is a lesbian. In Saudi Arabia, homosexual relationships are illegal, and local authorities regularly block any LGBTQ-like relationship.

This is not the first film to be censored in Saudi Arabia. Recently, the ban also covers, inter alia, Marvel’s “Eternals” and “West Side Story” by Steven Spielberg. In both cases the reason was the same as in “Doctor Strange …”.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was scheduled to debut on the Arabian Peninsula on May 5. Although pre-sale tickets are no longer available in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, in the United Arab Emirates it is still possible, so the film is likely to hit theaters in the latter country.

What will “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” talk about?

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is a continuation of the story played by Benedict Cumberbatch, which we met in the 2016 production. The action takes place after the events of the “Avengers: Endgame” show. Stephen Strange will have to face Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), his former friend. The film is to be related to the plot not only with the show “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, but also with the series “Loki” and “WandaVision”.

The cast includes Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong and Rachel McAdams in addition to Cumberbatch and Ejiofore.
