Will ER be the Laimer replacement? Leipzig poached again in Salzburg

RB Leipzig have signed Austrian international Nicolas Seiwald (21) from RB Salzburg.

The new signing comes for the coming season and will receive a five-year contract until 2028, the Leipzig announced on Sunday evening. Seiwald is likely to replace Konrad Laimer, who is expected to join Bayern Munich in the summer.

“Nici is a strong box-to-box player who has developed tremendously in recent years. Despite being only 21 years old, he has already gained a lot of experience in the men’s division and has also attracted attention at the highest level in the Champions League “said sporting director Max Eberl.

Seiwald is the 20th move by a Salzburg professional to Leipzig since 2012. He was under contract with the sister club from the Austrian Bundesliga until 2026, and Leipzig had already had contacts with Seiwald last summer. The youngster has already played ten senior international matches for the red-white-red team.

Glasner is “bubbling”: “Not enough against RB Leipzig”

After the bankruptcy, Oliver Glasner was ruthlessly honest in the fight for international places. “We just have to realize that if we don’t play at our upper level for 90 minutes, then it’s not enough against a team like RB Leipzig, so we deserved to lose,” said the Eintracht Frankfurt coach after the 1-2 (0: 2) among the Saxons.

In the Bundesliga, the Hessians, who are still in sixth place in the table, had to let their direct competitor go due to the defeat. However, Glasner did not want to use the setback that Frankfurt suffered in the Champions League on Tuesday as an excuse. In the round of 16 first leg, Eintracht lost 2-0 to SSC Napoli.

“If you look for the causes elsewhere, you won’t be able to change it,” said the Eintracht coach. If you play against teams like Leipzig or Naples, who are used to playing in the premier class, his team has to “deliver an absolute top performance for our standards over the entire duration of the game. We’re not consistently able to do that at this level at the moment.”

We were held up to this “mirror for the week,” said Glasner: “My goal is very clear. When I recognize something like that, it boils inside me. Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and do everything we can to make it happen To get our best performance for 90 minutes in order to be able to win games like that.”

Glasner emphasized that he was always impressed by how his team came back. Djibril Sow (61st) also scored the goal against Leipzig after being 2-0 down, caused by Timo Werner (6th) and Emil Forsberg (40th).

For sports director Markus Krösche, the defeat against a direct competitor was “annoying”, but there were still many games and in the second half you could see “what kind of quality we have, so we’re building on that”.

RB star successfully operated on the knee

Good news for RB Leipzig!

RB keeper Peter Gulacsi underwent successful surgery on his right knee after tearing his cruciate ligament. This was confirmed by the captain of the Saxons on Monday. The operation took place in Innsbruck on Sunday.

“This is of course a difficult moment in my career, but I believe that there is also an opportunity,” wrote the Hungarian Gulacsi on Instagram: “I will work hard every day to come back even better and stronger.”

He is “fully focused on the recovery and will do everything to be back with the team as soon as possible,” added the 32-year-old.

Gulacsi suffered the serious injury on Wednesday in the Champions League against Celtic Glasgow (3-1). As a short-term replacement, RB signed the last clubless Norwegian goalkeeper Örjan Nyland on Sunday, who received a contract until the end of the season.
