Asterix and Obelix celebrate their 65th birthday. They received another movie as a gift

Studiocanal and Editions Albert René have signed an agreement to produce the sixth live-action film about the adventures of Asterix and Obelix. The decision to create the spectacle coincided with the 65th birthday of the legendary Gauls.

“We are aware that Asterix is ​​an icon of culture. We assure you that we will respect his world, paying tribute to the extraordinary creators, René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo,” said Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal, in an official statement.

The first comic book about the adventures of Asterix and Obelix was published in 1959. Since then, albums about the pair of friends have been translated into 130 languages ​​and sold over 400 million copies.

So far, five live-action films about the adventures of the brave Gauls have been produced: “Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar” (1999), “Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” (2002), “Asterix at the Olympic Games” (2008), “Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia” (2012), and “Asterix and Obelix: The Silk Road” (2023). In addition, 10 animated films have been made. Next year, a series “Asterix” will debut on Netflix, with Alain Chabat as the showrunner.

The action of the Asterix and Obelix comic books takes place in 50 BC. Almost the entire Gaul is occupied by the Romans. Resistance is only offered by one village, whose inhabitants possess superhuman strength. Its source is a magical potion brewed by the druid Panoramix.
